Through A Sensor, Darkly’ describes a smoke screen, an obscuring of realities that occurs within digital spaces. As the ‘Real’ becomes harder to discern, conspiracy mutates. Military psychological operations (PSYOPs) are tactics for manipulating perception. The UFO, symbolic of PSYOPs, haunts internet conspiracies. Its influence is injected into AI generated and pixilated imagery which circulates on media feeds, gaining and shedding fictions as they fly. The sensory counterpart to this visuality is sound. Sound operates as a powerful tool, imposing a further layer that affirms a fiction. Audio becomes an accomplice in deception and a backing track to conspiracy, the cinematic score for a collapsing reality. The instrument ‘Celest’, borrowing from the visual language of radar and UFOs, captures aircraft movements, turning invisible data into sound. Alongside this, the short film ‘The Third Impact’ depicts imagery and video scraped from web sources, providing visual context that situates Celest and the sound it produces in a fiction of its own.
