Yixin Wang2026
Through the replication and redistribution of one hundred Yixing teapots, this project explores what I call the Ghost Layer: a state in which objects exist but never fully enter everyday life. By mass-producing a handcrafted object traditionally valued for its rarity and collectability, the project examines the tensions between production and use, value and circulation, preservation and participation. Through making, archiving, distributing, and imagining the future lives of these teapots, the project asks how objects acquire meaning, and what happens when they are allowed to leave collection and re-enter ordinary life.
